1. What is your favorite thing about summertime?
Oh how I love summertime. Let me list the ways:
*Sleeping in! We’ve been getting up around 8:00 every morning. Sa-weet!
*Spending more time with my kids. =) Enough said, right?
* The temperature. I hate being cold. Hate it! Today it’s 96 degrees in the shade. That is a little overkill for me, but it’s better than -14.
* Baseball. I love watching the kids (& the St. Louis Cardinals when I have time) playing ball.
*Grilling out. Everything tastes better when it’s off the grill.
I have more, but I’ll stop there.
2. What is your ideal retirement location (if money didn’t matter)?
Hmmmm… I’ve never thought of this before. I’d love to live near an ocean where it’s warm. BUT I think being near family would be realistic. I couldn’t image being older and not seeing my kids & family all the time.
3. Do you live in the same town you grew up in?
Sure do!! After high school, I went to college. Then I got a job in the Chicago suburbs, met my husband, got married, and live there. About 4 years later we moved back to our hometown.
So it was about 12 years since I had actually lived here. Now my kids have close relationships with all of their grandparents. It seemed really weird at first, being back home and calling it home. But moving back was the best decision we’ve ever made. Absolutely no regrets about it =)
I’m planning a pretty funny post about my hometown. Stay tuned, ok?
4. What nervous habit did you have as a child that you kicked to the curb before becoming an adult?
I used to chew on my shirt collars or drawstrings on hoodies. Gross, huh? I never knew why my mom would tell me to stop. It wasn’t hurting anybody. But now when I think of it, it makes me make that “Eeww…” face.
5. What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you while on the job?
This is a good one.
I can’t believe I’m going to tell this. (Deep breath)
Back after my 2nd year of teaching students who were blind, I taught our summer camp/summer school program. It was a really neat week for the kids. They got to all hang out with each other and learn things that are not taught in school. Things like how to brush their teeth, how to fold the laundry, etc. It was a laid back atmosphere, and we had lots of fun. I had 3 aids to help me out, & that was nice.
One day I was going over our schedule. I was reading to the kids what I had written on the board, kind of mindlessly rattling things off. At the end of the day they all had a chance to get a sucker… a Blow Pop sucker to be exact.
Weelllll, when I was roboticly telling this to the class, I accidentally said, “blow job sucker”!!! Can you believe that!?! I still can’t. I didn’t even know I did it until I saw the look on the aides’ faces!!! The kids were all clueless, thank GOD!

Oh my, a blow job sucker, huh? I bet the other adults thought it was hilarious!
My son has started doing that shirt collar chew thing. I'm afraid he's going to put holes in all of his shirts!
I can't believe you said that either. I can't believe even more that they were clueless!
I think the same thing about my kids. I wanna retire where they are. I just hope they're gonna be close together.
I can't imagine living in my hometown. Or even my home state! My parents moved across the country years and years ago, so I have no family anywhere near there.
And hubs would LOVE to retire in Hawaii, but I'm all "But we'd never see our kids/grandkids!"
