Not her best day.

Poor Little Miss.

She had a bad day Friday.

First, this happened:

She always wants to help me in the kitchen. I always warn her. But she learned the hard way that the oven door really is hot when it’s been 375 degrees for 20 minutes. She was fine until about an hour later. She carried a cup of cold water around with her all night.

Then she got ready for bed. She was combing her hair. Why not brushing her hair like always? I don’t know. But this is what I saw when I walked into the bathroom:

Seriously… this is pretty true to life. (The fuchsia thing is the comb.)

I said, “How did this happen? Why did you keep twisting? Why didn’t you come get me sooner?”

I thought, “There is absolutely no way I’m going to save any of this hair. I’m going to have to cut it all 2 inches from her scalp. Great, my cute little girl will have a mullet. Like Joe Dirt or something. Family pictures are next week, and she’s going to have 2 inch long hair. Nice.”

This kept flashing into my mind:

I had to really think about how to get this thing out of her hair. I thought I would cut the comb… cheap plastic, right? I ended up using a pair of pliers to grip each finger (is that the right word) of the comb. Once I had them all off, I still wasn’t sure we were going to make it. I mean this thing looked like nothing I had ever seen before. I slowly managed to wiggle it free.

Then, I used lots and lots of this stuff:

Pantene detangling & light conditioner spray.

Thank God we had that in the house. Otherwise I was ready to squirt a ton of condition on her hair & have her sleep with a baggy over it. It’s all I could think of.

Alas, we made it out of the bathroom with a thinner patch of hair and lots of broken ends. But people shouldn’t be able to tell. I hope.

Here’s hoping today is a better day for my Jelly Bean.
