Here it is!! The thing I’ve been all excited about!
This project is so easy and cheap. And I think it will save me some headaches and frustration this school year. I saw it here, and I had to make 3 of them (1 for each kid). Now I will pass this fabulous project along to all of you!
It’s this cute and oh-so-functional ‘book’ to keep school papers in.
1st, get 5 portfolio folders (without the clippy thingys). I got mine for 15 cents each.
Next, cut 1 of the folders down the middle. This folder will be your cover. (I let the kids choose which colors they wanted where. All 3 children were very adamant about the order. So you might want to ask your kids, just fyi; or just buy all the same colors.) Then, fold the remaining 4 folders backwards.
Then, place the (cut folder) cover on top & below the 4 bent folders. Put the cut edges of the cover on the opposite side of the folds. (That is worded funny. Hopefully the pictures will help it to make since.)
Next, take it to a local printing company to have it spiral bound along the edge opposite of the folds. This cost me $3.
Now, decorate and label it! I used my new Cricut to cut out the cool letters and numbers, then I put clear contact paper over it to keep it secure. I think I’ll add “2nd Grade” later today.
Use each pocket for every month during the school year – with pocket to spare. I will take a picture of my child during each month and tape it in the space next to the labeled month.
I plan on doing this every year for all three kids. This way, they will have a cool (one of a kind) keep-sake-type-thing at the end of every school year!
And it only cost me $4! How cool is that?!
Now, go make some for your kids, and let me know how it goes!! =)
I just switched the commenting option. I hope this is better for all of you.

Ooooo… I LIKE that! Now I can’t wait for my little one to start school. Okay, so not really because I don’t want him to be old enough for school yet but it’s a great idea for when he does get there. Thanks for sharing!
Happy SITS Day!
Cheers

Thanks for stopping by! I have found other uses for the “papers book” too – recipes, receipt filing, etc. Let me know if you make one.

Sharon – That’s a fabulous idea! Computers can be a wonderful thing.
Instead of spiral binding it…you could always use a 3 hole punch and ribbon tie it or use the o ring clasps for it instead. Much cheaper than having it bound. Just a thought!! Also to make it a little more dressier…you could cut some pretty scrapbook paper to the size of the white parts in the inside of the folders and glue it in to make it a little more decorative..kids could pick out coordinating papers….!!! Very cute idea…when my child starts school Im going to have these already made up…LOL I have like 2 more years to go….
Found this on stumble upon and it is fabulous. I am a paper cluttered mess and all of those school papers…yikes! Great and simple and clever idea! New follower too!

I really love this idea!! My daughter and I just went through every paper from her kindergarten year and I told her we have to go through first grade papers much sooner! We picked out the colors together and will bind it at school next week! (I teach kindergarten and we have one of those binders at school
I will also show it at meet the teacher night so thank you for the wonderful idea!!!!

Thanks! They really do help control the paper population. I need to make this year’s “books” before school starts & it all snowballs out of control.
Jill, these are awesome. I can’t pin them fast enough. I have such an issue with old school papers. This would be wonderful for my kiddos. Would be delighted for you to link up with us over at Mop it Up Mondays: http://www.ishouldbemoppingthefloor.com/2012/02/mop-it-up-mondays-3.html.
