After reading Nicole’s post on how she reorganized her command center I was completely inspired!

She got the idea from this post on Tatortots and Jello (I keep thinking it is Tatortots and Jello Shots!)

I have all but given up on finding a decent tray to repaint like they did, but all hope is not yet lost.

I once again forgot to take a before picture, but it was a big mess.

Papers were always everywhere. The kids would come home with their weekly spelling list or book orders and I just threw them all in a pile. Only to be lost or accidentally thrown out.

Not anymore!

Now all 5 of have our own file. It’s where I keep our team/league schedules, library cards, school registration papers, etc. This is what is currently in Lucas’s folder:

I also made 3 other folders: bills, to (be) filed, and medical (receipts)

Before I put these folders in place, my “to be filed” papers ended up here:

Not what I consider ideal home decor.

Now the house looks nice, and I know exactly where important papers are!

Imagine that!

It was super simple to make the file folders.

Just trace a file folder onto scrapbook paper – one inside & one outside per folder – and cut them out. The inside doesn’t even have to go all the way to the bottom.

I used scrapbook tape (some used adhesive spray) to attach the paper to the folders.

I used my Cricut to cut out the black boarder for the labels.

Then I went nerd crazy & put clear contact paper on the tab as well as the area just below the tab. It helps keep the paper from pulling away from the folder. Can you tell?

I even got inspired to clean up & reorganize our large junk drawer!

And I remembered to take a before picture:

Do you see what is in the very back? It's 3 rolls of 35mm film!

And after:

I didn't count, but I think we have 4372 tubes of chap stick.

Amazing that most of the stuff was trash, huh?

I finally cleaned up our upper cabinet by our ‘command center’ and junk drawer too.

I feel better now.

It looks great! I still need to make a file for coupons (for local restaurants, the dry cleaners, etc). Bills go in Matt’s file :)

Great post! It seems you have done quite a spring clean. I love spring clean and getting organized. Not that my own place is total organized anyhow.. haha… it just doing it makes me feel calmer rather than lots of clutter around me..

Love your organizing….it always makes me feel better too. I’d much rather spend my time organizing that something useless like cooking:)

That’s a great idea Nicole – I’ll put my bills in Matt’s folder too. LOL! But seriously, thank for the inspiration.

Good job! I bet it feels so good to have it all cleaned up! I remember the first time I got my “command center” all organized. Unfortunately… since our move, my station has become all cluttered again and I can’t seem to find the motivation to make it neat again.
