It sounds good anyway.

This week I had some version of the flu, and I’m crossing my fingers that the headaches will stay away.

Between trips to the bathroom (TMI?), I found some amazing things on Pinterest.

When I saw this, I thought I might give it a try, seeing as I’ve only weighed this much when I was pregnant, & all.

Week 1:

  • Run one minute.
  • Walk 90 seconds.
  • Repeat eight times.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 2:

  • Run two minutes.
  • Walk one minute.
  • Repeat seven times.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 3:

  • Run three minutes.
  • Walk one minute.
  • Repeat six times.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 4:

  • Run five minutes.
  • Walk two minutes.
  • Repeat four times.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 5:

  • Run eight minutes.
  • Walk two minutes.
  • Repeat three times.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 6:

  • Run twelve minutes.
  • Walk one minute.
  • Repeat three times.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 7:

  • Run fifteen minutes.
  • Walk one minute.
  • Run fifteen minutes.
  • Do three times a week.

Week 8:

  • Run thirty

The thought of running 30 minutes straight is daunting right now, but maybe in 2 months it will be possible using this sort of Couch to 5k approach.

So who’s with me? Want to start this together next week?

Anyone? Anyone?

Sorry to hear you were ill.

Ummm, I don’t run. I might walk fast or lightly jog but I. Don’t. Run. Good luck with it. I’m in the beginning stages of Weight Watchers, I haven’t signed up yet. But I’m keeping track of what I’m eating. Being more conscience of my choices and I’m trying to move more. I’ve reached my limit of this chubby out of shape body.

Couch to 5k is an awesome program. It worked for me. If you have an ipod touch there’s an app that was great. No looking at a watch, it told you when to run and when to walk. I had to stop running due to a back problem but this program made me love it.

I’ve tried a few times. My head gets in my way. lol. I want to ask runners what they think about that whole time. All I can do is think, “How much longer?!”

Great tip, Jody. I’ll have to steal one of the kids’ iPods & maybe give that a try.

If I ever get back to feeling normal again….I want to try this. I loved the couch to 5K and maybe I can do even better now that I know I need an inhaler! Oh, and don’t forget the meds to keep us from itching like crazy. Sometimes I wonder if I’m just not meant to exercise!

LOL! Claritin is part of my morning, every morning.

Michelle (Milano) did/does this and it was strenuous to begin with and ended up a success. I was proud of her (from my couch). Running and I don’t go hand in hand. I could’ve been voted slowest 6 yr old. – it didn’t get better with age. GOOD LUCK!

I am SO out of shape right now. I’m excited to get started tomorrow. But I’m not going to lie… it’s not going to be pretty. Definitely doing it when Blake’s at school – in my basement – where nobody can see me. :)

As to what we runners think about while we run? I detest running inside, but when I run outside, there’s so much to look at! I also plan the week’s menu, figure out where I’d like to go photograph, what I want to do during the upcoming weekends, about my girl going off to college next fall . . . there’s OODLES to think about! I say, go for it and have fun (also, blasting music helps out a LOT)! Good luck! ;)

Thanks Katie! Maybe once I’m a little more confident in my running skills I’ll move to the outdoors. I survived Day 1 of the schedule. It wasn’t too bad. I think transitioning to week 2 will be the toughest.

Good luck, Jill! I tried this (for maybe 3 days?) and my knees hurt so bad, I stopped. That was months ago but you made me laugh with your comment about thinking, “how much left?” I am the exact same way – always an eye on the clock :) I did start Boot Camp in T Town this morning and oh boy, am I here to tell you that I am RIDICULOUSLY out of shape. I mean, it’s sad. But, one step at a time … I’ve got to get rid of baby weight – he turned 1 a few weeks ago — I’ve lost my excuse :)

Happy running and here’s to hoping I don’t have to go down many stairs today. Holy shaky legs, Batman!

Today wasn’t bad. My legs can tell they did something they’re not used to, but I can still function. Boot camp sounds scary. Good luck walking tomorrow. :)

When the run times got up in the higher numbers I’d do math. An average song is 3 minutes long. I have 12 minutes to run. I should be almost done by the time I hear the 4th song. Then I’d sing along in my head. My all time favorite song to run to, Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter”.

If I was on a treadmill I’d set small goals. “I cannot look at the time until this song is over.”

This also looks a little different from Couch to 5k which is a 9 week program. Try it instead. It’s defined by run rather than by week which is an easier transition later in the program.

Jill,
After you get used to running, you won’t realize that you’ve been running for x amount of time. I used to think, “There’s NO WAY I can run a mile”. Now I run 5Ks and it never feels like I’ve been running for 30 mins. (That’s my target time for races; I’ve always been just over it). This is easy for me to say as I sit at my computer instead of actually getting out there and running. I am a self proclaimed “Fair Weather runner”, so these cold temps aren’t motivating me at all. Honestly, by the time you get to the thirty minutes it won’t feel like it(especially if you play some JB while running) Good luck!

Oh I hope so, Angela! Someday maybe we can run some 5k’s together. Thanks for the encouragement. And hopefully this running thing gets easier as I drop a few pounds of jiggle. lol. It’s a win-win.
